We all belive that League is at its best when played as a coordinated team. Past community events and tournaments inspired the developer to revive the 5v5 mode — but with modern matchmaking improvements that should prevent the long queue times that killed the original version.
What’s New This Time?
- No fixed teams required
You no longer need the same five players every session. You can queue with any group of five friends, making it easier to play consistently.
- No rank restrictions
Friends can queue together regardless of rank differences. Riot added systems to balance teams with large skill gaps to keep matches fair.
- Limited weekend availability
Ranked 5s will only be open during specific weekend time windows (e.g., 9 PM–1 AM local server time). This concentrates the player base and improves matchmaking quality and queue times.
- Tournament Draft
The mode uses Tournament Draft (3 bans → 3 picks → 2 bans → 2 picks), encouraging deeper strategy and coordinated champ select.

Ranked 5s is an experiment, not a permanent mode yet. Riot wants player feedback and expects to adjust the queue over time.
