Patch 17.2 is one of the biggest updates of Set 17 so far — a mix of new Opening Encounters, fresh God Blessings, economy deflation, and wide‑ranging balance changes across traits, units, augments, and items. It also includes a mid‑patch update (April 29) fixing bugs and tuning outliers.
1. Systems & Encounters
Opening Encounters return + new ones added The patch reintroduces many fan‑favourite encounters and adds several new ones to shake up early‑game planning.
New Encounters:
Double Duplicators — gain a Lesser Duplicator on 2‑1 and another on 3‑3. Artifact Anvil — everyone gets an Artifact Anvil on 3‑3. Stage Three Augments — augments appear on 3‑1, 3‑2, 3‑3. Reroll Start — 8 free rerolls on 2‑1.
Cheaper Levels — each level costs 2 XP less.
Removed Encounters:
Augment Round Swap, Gwen’s Gifts, Reckoner Arena, Scuttle Puddle.
2. Augment Distribution & Loot Changes
Augment odds lowered High‑power augment combinations (Prismatic/Gold/Prismatic etc.) have reduced appearance rates to bring power spikes back in line with Lore & Legends.
Loot System adjustments Stage 1–3 loot slightly reduced.
Fixed bug where low‑HP players got too many anvils + guaranteed Reforger.
Goal: reduce early‑game inflation and snowballing.
3. God Armory & God Boons God Armory (4‑7) Gold offering reduced 12 → 10.
Reworked / adjusted Boons Kayle’s Boon reworked: now scales with unique completed items on your team (HP, AD%, AP%). Ekko’s Anomaly tuned to be more usable across classes. Thresh’s Boon: more consistent, less inflationary (rolls on 5‑1, gold 5→6, 4‑costs replaced with 3‑costs). Yasuo’s Boon: gold hex reduced 12 → 8.
New God Blessings
Ahri: Gold Every Turn, Divine Investment, Chest of Greed. Kayle: Divine Refund, Craftsmanship, Anvil Transformation. Evelynn: Finalist Gambit (30g if you Top 4). Soraka: revive‑style shield for the unit that died first last round. Thresh: Mini‑Recombobulate (upgrade all 1–2 cost units). Varus: Ephemeral Rerolls, Starcrossed Upgrade.
4. Trait Changes
Timebreaker (Reworked) Now primarily an Attack Speed trait. Adds XP storage + rerolls depending on win/loss. 4‑piece grants +50% AS to Timebreakers.
Anima Mid‑tier cashouts rebalanced. Tech values increased; cashout rewards redesigned.
Arbiter Multiple tuning changes to make all triggers (damage, rerolls, low HP) equally viable.
Stargazer Fountain pattern disabled temporarily. Huntress pattern buffed. Medallion 3‑star damage amp nerfed.
Meeple Gold per cloned champion reduced across tiers.
5. Unit Balance A massive wave of buffs/nerfs across all costs.
Notable Buffs Caitlyn: faster, bigger Headshot projectile. Cho’Gath: more base HP + bonus HP. Ezreal: higher AD/AP scaling to support reroll builds. Milio, Diana, Maokai, Corki, Kindred, LeBlanc, Master Yi, Sona all buffed.
Notable Nerfs Talon: AS nerf + ability damage reduced (after fixing Omnivamp bug). Samira: ability damage nerfed. Viktor: largest nerf of the patch — big AP ratio cuts. Xayah, Nunu, Urgot, Vex (range 8→5!) also nerfed.
Tank improvements Mighty Mech, Tahm Kench, Maokai, and other low‑cost tanks strengthened to reduce “no frontline” issues.
6. New Champion Augments
New gold/prismatic augments tied to specific champions: Heat Death (Mordekaiser) — DoT aura Magic Fighter. Self‑Destruct (Gragas) — huge explosion, self‑damage. Shieldmaiden (Leona) — physical dash + stun. Heart of the Swarm (Prismatic) — enables APEX PRIMORDIAN at level 10 with 6 unique 3‑stars. Divine Amendment — Arbiters gain a second effect. Removed: Pandora’s Bench.
7. Adjusted Augments
Economy‑focused augments nerfed across the board:
AFK: 20 → 17 gold At What Cost: XP 12 → 8 Expedition: 27 → 20 gold Hedge Fund: 25 → 22 Savings Account: 30 → 25
On a Roll, Patience is a Virtue, Prismatic Ticket, Twin Guardians, Two Tanky, Tiny Titan all nerfed.
8. Emblems & Artifacts
Emblems Top‑line emblems toned down:
Dark Star, Rogue, Shepherd, Space Groove, Timebreaker, Vanguard, Voyager all nerfed.
Artifacts Kayle’s Exaltation removed (bug). Thresh’s Lantern buffed. Yasuo’s Bladework buffed. Titanic Hydra splash damage reduced.
9. Bug Fixes
Blitzcrank no longer revives enemies. Master Yi dash logic fixed. Kayle’s Craftsmanship gold bug fixed. Varus Blessing duration fixed. Many emblem, augment, and VFX bugs resolved. Golden Egg countdown fixed. Numerous edge‑case interactions cleaned up.
TL;DR — What Actually Matters for Your Games
Economy is weaker → less inflation, fewer free 4‑cost 3‑stars. Timebreaker rework opens new reroll lines. Viktor & Vex nerfed hard → Psionic comps shift. Frontline is stronger → more tank options, less Nunu dependency. New Encounters drastically change early‑game planning. God Blessings now more varied and less snowbally.
